Route description

The White Valley is one of the most popular unmarked valleys in Bucegi Mountains. With a multitude of tourists with some mountain experience walking around in summer, this wide valley is also popular during winter, when it can be relatively easy skied. Valea Albă is very visible from Bușteni city, laying at the base of the highest rock wall in the area, White Valley Wall (Peretele Văii Albe).

The valley is interrupted by two main obstacles (two small rock walls interrupt the valley) both of them offering the possibility to be by-passed but needing, nevertheless, some mountain experience and basic climbing skills.

The valley terrain is described by big boulders and easy terrain. Some boulders you by-pass, some you must directly climb. At the middle of the valley you wil meet the first important obstacle, Cârnului Wall (Săritoarea Cârnului) which you can by-pass on the right, entering a couloir that will lead you above it. Continue on the valley until the second obstacle, The Big Wall (Săritoarea Marea) that you can overpass on the left. Soon the valley will lead you on grassy grounds and in the Bucegi Mountains Plateau.

Access and retreat

Access route: From Căminul Alpin (the Alpine Lodge), headquarters for the Romanian Alpine Club, trek up through the forest on the marked trail leading to Poiana Izvoarelor Hut. Around 20 minutes after starting walking, an indicator will guide you right towards Poiana Izvoarelor. Here you must leave the marked trail and go left, keeping relatively close to the valley edge on the left. Continue going up through the forest for about 1 hour, on a barely visible trail (always keeping close or relatively in the area of the valley to the left) until you reach a road indicator (a small concrete boundary stone on the left, next to a big dead thunderstruck tree). Here turn left. In around 100 meters you will reach a water spring.

Continue up and then left for about 15 minutes until you reach a grassy platform that opens up the perspective towards Creasta Picăturii and the White Valley. From here you will start descending on an exposed trail towards the valley. You will soon get to open ground and a grassy platform named "La Verdeata" (the green spot). From here on it would be difficult to lose the trail, as the valley opens up above you.
Access duration: 1h30m
Retreat route: Arrived on the plateau you will have on the right Releul Coștila (a big radio antenna) and on the left Caraimanului Cross. Close to the cross you will get on a very touristic trail leading to Babele Hut.
Retreat duration: 1h30min +
